Coming soon…

Wintertime on the beach is sort of a magical time.  Not a soul around, we had this quiet stretch of seashore all to ourselves for Maggie & Jonathan’s engagement session.  Wind, waves and a fairytale kinda love.. my favorite :)

I love the adventures that my couples come up with!  When we started talking ideas, Hannah mentioned Spectre Island; a tiny little privately owned island on the river in Montgomery, AL, that just so happened to be the location for part of the scenes in the Ewan McGregor movie Big Fish!  How fun is that!  Check this out:

Yeah!  That place!  Obviously, I loved this idea, and we had the best time!  Enjoy a few of my favorite images!

A couple of weeks ago, Chris and I headed south to shoot a wedding down in Naples, Florida.  We love to explore and we’re always up for an adventure, so naturally with a 10 hour drive, we decided to take a few extra days on either side of the wedding to get in a little vacation time.

Travel to the Everglades

Our first day in town, we ventured over to Everglade City, the southernmost town on Florida’s west coast, before you hit the Everglades.  Chris was in the mood for stone crab, so we searched for a hole in the wall on the water, and it did not disappoint.  After a walk along the shore and a drive through town, we spent some time checking out Naples.  We hit a few shops and picked up some local ice cream to watch a stunner of a sunset on the pier.  The day after the wedding, we went north to Ft. Meyers and drove out to Sanibel & Captiva Islands.  Chris and I can both remember taking family trips there as kids, so it was awesome to be able to go back together.  A drive through across the islands and through the wildlife preserve and a walk on the beach made for a perfect day.  It’s funny how the island seemed so big as a kid :)  I’m still in love with those white, shell-covered shores.

Recently, Chris has had the opportunity to be a part of a surfing clinic for Wounded Warriors put on by Navarre Beach Surf Warriors and the Wounded Warrior Project.  We are coming up on the two year anniversary of Chris’s strokes and as much progress as he has made, surfing is something that will still thought was a long way off.  But one of the amazing things about these organizations is that it doesn’t matter how impaired the veterans are, they can participate.  For now, for Chris, that just meant laying on his stomach and riding the waves in.  But the smile on his face was infectious.  There is something about doing things you love that takes away your stress and worries for a while and for these wounded service members, that’s a big deal.  And for those who were told they could never do something again, and get to prove that theory wrong, that’s everything.
